Honey, Milk and a Shot

“patient”
“kind”

the pause between
harsh word
and
gentle plea
is
confirmation

how much i want to
wash your back
with
sea water
and
honey

how badly i want to
learn to hold you
as
gently
carefully
as
you hold me

ubiquity
you have poured milk
into
open wounds
even as i push
kick
scream

wide strong hands
at
the small
of
my back
have taught me

“patient”
“kind”

how much i want to
hold your dreams
in
my hands
guide the stars
into
your arms

how badly i want to
feel fingers dipped
in
jack daniels
trace
constellations
on
my thighs

my breathing comes
in
startled puffs
filling
the cracks between
brown skin
and
brown skin

i learn
God’s name
in
moans
and
whispers

“patient”
“kind”
